Bela Lugosi’s dead. Again. Rising Scottish synthpop stars Chvrches have released a pitch-perfect cover of the 1979 song by gothic rock pioneers Bauhaus. The song’s set to feature in the upcoming fantasy film Vampire Academy: Blood Sisters . And no, we can’t believe that’s a thing either.
Chvrches have been making plenty of noise these days, and all of it pretty damn good. This is their second released cover this month, after they put their own spin on Janelle Monae’s “Tightrope”.
Their newest work is a wonderfully poppy reinterpretation of the original piece from Bauhaus, which was a cheery piece of work. Wait, no, sorry, different song. It was actually nine-minutes long and a serious spine-tingler. Notable for some wildly spooky guitar effects, and for the unusual one-take recording that produced it, Bauhaus’ goth rock epic is getting some new legs. Chvrches’ reinvention certainly seems appropriate for the setting it’s headed for. The song will play over the credits of the aforementioned vampire movie. Other artists on the soundtrack include Katy Perry and Sky Ferreira. Check the new cover below.
