Well, it took the Arctic Monkeys awhile, but they did it. “Do I Wanna Know”, the lead single from their recent album AM has taken first place on Billboard’s alternative song survey.
While they’ve long been chart toppers over in Britain, the Arctic Monkeys haven’t received quite as much Billboard love as they might’ve liked. A couple of singles from their debut album Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not achieved some success, with “I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor” climbing all the way up to #8 on Billboard’s alternative charts. But hey, it’s hard to argue with number one, and “Do I Wanna Know” has earned its place.
Domino, the label behind the Monkeys, offered a special thanks to the radio stations instrumental in the song’s popularization. There’s also no denying that AM was just one hell of a record. MxDwn’s top album list was far from the only best-of it made. So cheers to Turner and co., they’ve earned this one.
