Punk rockers the Buzzcocks are crowdsourcing their next record, which also happens to be the band’s first new studio album in eight years.
Slicing Up Eyeballs reports that Buzzcocks launched the campaign on PledgeMusic late last week. The band already has 462 pledges and 60% of the goal met, with 107 days left to complete the campaign.

The reason they chose to crowdsource their latest album is due to the speed of the process – the band’s last album, 2006’s Flat Pack Philosophy, took two years to reach fans via the traditional record-company release. Now that Buzzcocks is doing it their way, they hope to preview the songs live this spring, then record them. The plan is to have a digital release on May 1 and ship the vinyls and CDs over the summer. The new track “People Are Strange Machines” will be on the upcoming record.
