Kirk Hammett is headed back to familiar ground. The renowned Metallica guitarist is set to play a set with Exodus, a Californian thrash band that Hammett helped form in 1980. Yep, this one’s been a long time coming.
Does it count as ironic if a guy forms a band called Exodus, then leaves it three years later? Maybe, but we’re just glad he’s coming back. Hammett’s last appearance with Exodus came in 2012 at a Paul Baloff (another early member) memorial concert. They’ve done just fine without him though, and have toured alongside the likes of Slayer and Rob Zombie.
This next collaboration is going down at a very special time: Kirk Von Hammett’s very first Fear FestEVIL, an event that the guitarist promises to be the “most sinister, evil, over the top horror music festival every”. Some true monsters of metal’s pioneer days are coming in to play, including Liverpool legends Carcass, Orchid, and of course, Exodus. More on this as the festival fills out, but expect horror acts a-plenty. Check out Hammett’s trailer below.
