Unsemble assemble! An outstandingly oddball mix of musicians has come together to form one of the most unorthodox trios we’ve seen in a long time. Weird? Yep. Awesome? Definitely.
That fine group of gents up there is, from left to right: Alexander Hacke of Einstürzende Neubaten, Duane Denizen of Tomahawk (and whatever other band he feels like playing for), and Brian Kotzur of the Silver Jews. Informative, right? We’ll break that down a bit for you.
We’ll start with Hacke, because he’s the anomaly here. Hailing from wee old Germany, he’s best known for his work with Einstürzende Neubaten (that jaw-cracking name translates to “Collapsing New-Buildings”) as bassist, guitarist, and vocalist. Neubaten has been around since the early 80’s, and has built a deserved reputation as one of the world’s most influential industrial bands.
Denison first hit the scene with alt outfit The Jesus Lizard. He’s since joined forces with Mr. Bungle/Faith No More vocalist Mike Patton to form Tomahawk – a band known for consistent releases and a torrid touring pace. The collaboration with Kotzur is a natural move, as Denison has also worked with the Silver Jews (Kotzur drums for the band).
There’s your cast, but you’ll have to wait a bit to see what they come up with. Their eponymous, 15-track debut is set to drop March 3rd, full track listing below.
