Sad news Metallica lovers – the lords of metal have called off the 2014 edition of their Orion Music + More Festival. A recent statement confirmed the cancellation, attributing it to a date clash with the band’s European tour.
Disappointing stuff, to put it lightly. The Orion Festival has attracted some serious names in its two previous incarnations. Metallica, of course, attended both the 2012 and 2013 festivals, but pulled in some heavy-duty headliners to join them both times. In 2012, that list included monsters such as the Arctic Monkeys, A7X, and Sepultura. 2013 got even more ridiculous, if anything, with the addition of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Bassnectar, Deftones, and Rise Against.
Shame it’s not coming back, but the band has mentioned a possible revival in 2015. Until then, they’re going to be plenty busy, with appearances at Rock Werchter and the Sonisphere concerts in Europe. On top of that, they’ve recently released live album from their recent concert in Antarctica (yeah, that actually happened), and have announced the upcoming DVD release of the Through the Never concert film.
