Brian May, best known as the guitarist in Queen, is undergoing tests for cancer after having terrible pain around Christmastime.
May has been updating fans via his website in late December. On the 28th, he wrote post describing his pain and the tests that followed. The guitarist was having severe pain that even prevented him from standing up, and MRIs found not only mechanical disc and vertebrae problems, but also abnormalities in the bones. Since that discovery, he writes, he has been undergoing blood tests, ultrasounds and scans in the hopes of ruling out various types of cancer.
On December 30, May posted again on his website, this time to respond to the outpouring of support from fans after his original post. In it, he writes that he is grateful for his caring fans but that it opened his eyes to how many people have personally dealt with cancer and had a hard time sharing about the experience.
I feel like I have a whole new understanding of the way people – all people – deal with frightening news, and move on into the next place. I know I won’t be able to answer every message … but I thank you all from the bottom of my heart, and I’m making a start on some replies now.
According to NME, May is still preparing for his upcoming tour while waiting for his results.
