WATCH: The Black Angels Visit the Moog Sound Lab and Perform “Don’t Play With Guns”

The Black Angels took a little trip to North Carolina to visit the Moog Music factory where they tried out some shiny new analog toys. Check it out as they put them to use in a performance of “Don’t Play With Guns”.

This video is the only the latest in a series that brings artists to the Moog Sound Lab to test their products and perform original material. Moog Music is getting ready for their Moogfest music festival which brings all sorts of acts to Asheville, North Carolina. This year’s festival will be taking place April 23-27 and will be headlined by Kraftwerk, Giorgio Moroder and Chic.

“Don’t Play With Guns” comes off the Black Angels’ latest release, Indigo Meadow, which the group is currently touring in support of. This recent tour would seem to be the cherry on top of a particularly good year for the Austin-based group. Says Kyle Hunt of the experience:

So glad we had time to swing by the Moog Sound Lab to record with nothing but Moog synthesizers! We doubled some bass lines in the studio with a vintage Moog Prodigy (while recording Indigo Meadow). After playing through the Sub Phatty (in the Moog Sound Lab session) that day I realized that I could pull off some of the doubled bass lines with my left hand while playing the organ parts on my right hand. It was fun to strip away our “go to” guitars, organs and fuzz pedals and see what can happen when you explore analog synthesis with modern stability and patching!
