Benmont Tench Announces Solo Album You Should Be So Lucky for February 2014 Release

Tom Petty’s secret weapon got together some friends and committed a career’s worth of songs to tape, you definitely want to know more.

Widely known for his time playing keys with Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Benmont Tench has made quite a name for himself lending piano to other artists in session work and even penning a number of hit tunes. Needless to say, it must have been relatively easy for him to phone in some help from recording luminaries like Ryan Adams, Gillian Welch & David Rawlings, Joel Jerome, Tom Petty and Ringo Starr, all of whom appear on his first solo album. You Should Be So Lucky also features a core band made up of Tench, on keys, Don Was, Ethan Johns, Blake Mills and Jeremy Stacey.

According to his label, Blue Note Records, the album will be released February 18 in digital, CD and vinyl formats (with two additional tracks that are exclusive to the vinyl version). To celebrate the release, Tench will be performing at Largo in Los Angeles on both February 20 and February 21 (tickets now on sale). Additionally, the first track off the album, “Blonde Girl, Blue Dress”, is now available for your listening pleasure.
