Atlanta garage-rockers Black Lips have just dropped “Boys in the Wood”, the first taste of their upcoming album Underneath the Rainbow, their first in three years.
It’s about as garage rock as it gets – prepare for some hefty flashbacks to the Meat Puppets. It’s also seriously promising, and there’s an excellent chance that Underneath the Rainbow is going to hold a few similar diamonds. Check out the full video below.
Formed in 1999, Black Lips have long epitomized the stereotypical fringe rock outfit. Two founding members were actually booted out of high school after being tagged as dangerous subculturals. Since then they’ve recorded an album in a Tijuana bar and abandoned an Indian tour after arrest and imprisonment became a very real possibility. More recently, the band took a tour across the Middle East, a rare move that wound up spawning a documentary about the experience.
