Pixies Name Paz Lenchantin as New Touring Bassist

Pixies are set to embark on a lengthy tour that will place them all over North America in 2014, as well as many a festival throughout Europe and South America. Joining them on the road will be Paz Lenchantin, the band’s newest bassist following Kim Deal’s departure from the group in June.

Lenchantin will be looking to fill the shoes of two different Kims. After Deal left the band, and the Pixies deleted her contribution to the new material they’d been working on, they hired The Muffs guitarist Kim Shattuck to step in as their bassist. That only lasted three months, however, as Pixies released her from the group in late November.

Now stepping up to the plate is Lenchantin, known for her talent in singing as well as playing the piano, violin, guitar and bass. She’s made a name for herself working with A Perfect Circle, ZWAN and The Entrance Band, and has also been featured on albums by Queens of the Stone Age, Jenny Lewis, Brightblack Morning Light and many more.

Pixies drummer David Lovering had this to say about the group’s newest bassist:

We are really looking forward to playing with her on these dates. Working with different bass players is very new for the band, but we’re having a great time doing it.

Pixies will be touring in support of their latest 4-track EP, EP-1, from which they released the video for “Another Toe In the Ocean” today. Have a listen:
