The Big Ears 2014 lineup has gone official as the festival returns from a 3-year hiatus, and an interesting crew of artists have raised their heads, full list after the break.
It’s sort of a relief to see that Big Ears is even on for 2014. The festival’s organizers are also bound up with Bonnaroo, and there was some doubt as to whether or not we’d be seeing a new repetition after their recent hiatus. But, it’s here, and it’s good.
Big Ears has long caught praise for being an anomaly. Any modern festival that manages to distance itself so well from commercialism is bound to have draw already – and that’s before you look at the list of artists they’ve hosted. Big Ears has had appearances from indie’s finest, including the xx, Vampire Weekend, and the National. This year’s rotation is excellent as well.
Jonny Greenwood of Radiohead fame will be part of a larger collaboration performing artist-in-residence Steve Reich’s compositions. Rock and roll Hall-of-Famer John Cale, known for his work with the Velvet Underground, will also be in Knoxville.
