Cumbre Tajin has announced their 2014 lineup. Maynard James Keenan comes two for the price of one, as both Tool and Puscifer are playing. California rockers Primus are also inbound, more below.
So, what’s Cumbre Tajin? Short answer – an annual festival held at the Spring equinox, located in Veracruz, Mexico. The long answer is more complex, and probably requires a decent command of Spanish. Well, at least they host some truly incredible bands.
Some of the larger names from last year include The Smashing Pumpkins, Calvin Harris, Ziggy Marley, and Regina Spektor. While the full lineup isn’t due until January, the early three-pack we’ve just seen set an extremely solid precedent.
Cumbre Tajin is just another stop for Primus, as they get set for an extensive Spring touring schedule, which is advertised as being in 3D. Whether this is a revolutionary new broadcast system, or just a snarky reminder that they’re playing live, we’re not sure.
As for Puscifer and Tool, both bands have been busy. Primus is due to release a What is…, a mockumentary that attempts to explain the MJK project in depth. Or not. Tool also has some new material, and a brand-new, “epic” song is apparently awaiting final touches.
