If you listen back to the old Uncle Tupelo records it’s strange and wonderful to realize the Alt-Country vibe that Jeff Tweedy grew out of and transcended. That sound which he helped to innovate is part of the musical substructure of our day.
Since Wilco’s collaboration with Billy Bragg on the two Mermaid Avenue records – composing and recording tunes for Woody Guthrie’s lyrics – the band has developed into a lasting contribution to American music, actually any music.
