Happy Thursday hard rock fans. mxdwn is proud to present to you a premiere from one of our favorite bands of the last decade. Today, feast your ears on the razor-sharp, punch-you-in-the-face kiss-off of A Perfect Circle’s “Passive.” Many of you know lead singer Maynard James Keenan from his other bands Tool and Puscifer. Guitarist Billy Howerdel you also may know from Ashes Divide and James Iha is famously the ex-guitarist for The Smashing Pumpkins during their prime in their 90’s. This live track–taken from their epic four disc + DVD box set A Perfect Circle Live: Featuring Stone and Echo–features Puscifer/Ashes Divide members Jeff Friedl on drums and Matt McJunkins on bass.
This massive box set comes from a composite of the band’s reunion tour dates. The first disc and DVD is from an impressive career-spanning performance from August 3rd, 2011 at the famous Red Rocks Amphitheater. The set also includes three discs, one each chronicling a night from a short tour where they played one of their three albums in its entirety. We managed to catch the Thirteenth Step night of that tour here in Los Angeles back in 2010. Needless to say, it was an overwhelming and fantastic set. If that wasn’t enough, the band also has their first greatest hits compilation coming out this month, entitled Three Sixty.
Three Sixty is released on 11/19 and is available for purchase through Amazon
Without further delay, enjoy this live cut of “Passive.” Super fans of Keenan and Trent Reznor will be happy to know (if they don’t know already) that is one of the very few songs written as a part of the sessions for the long-defunct Tapeworm project (originally titled “Vacant”).
