It’s been a challenging year for Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings, but the soulful funk group is triumphantly returning with the album Give The People What They Want January 14, and will be hitting the road in support of it, beginning early February.

Jones was diagnosed with cancer earlier this year, three months before the originally scheduled release date for the new album, and she’s spent much of 2013 in treatment and recovery. The fearless frontwoman now appears poised to return to the stage with a vengeance, however, and it all begins with her group’s performance on a float in the 87th Annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.
In response to her group’s inclusion in the festive parade this year, Jones has been quoted as saying:
Getting to take part in this parade is so thrilling; I’ve been watching it on television since I was a young girl. I have traveled a hard road this year and being thankful is something I relate to deeply.
