Merge Signs Mary Timony-Fronted Band Ex Hex

Mary Timony’s latest project, Ex Hex, has found a new home with Merge Records.

Mary Timony has joined up with longtime friends Betsy Wright and Laura Harris to form Ex Hex (also the name of her 2005 solo album). Frontwoman Mary Timony is well known on the indie frontier for her solo work and her involvement with Helium and supergroup Wild Flag. Ex Hex has an album in progress that is slated for a 2014 release with an accompanying tour and appearance at the SXSW Festival in March. With regards to the direction of the group, Timony has the following to say:

Ex Hex is what your older brother’s friends listened to. “Roxy Roller” and “Virginia Plain” rumbling from the Kenwood in the basement.
It’s what your babysitters listened to, and it’s what stuck with me.
Ex Hex is a power trio: guitar, drums, and bass.
We are thrilled to have found a home at Merge.
