Black Flag Announces First New Album in Almost 30 Years Entitled What The…

Black Flag, one partition of the fractured hardcore punk group Black Flag, has announced a new album some 30 years after their last.

Black Flag reuniting this past Spring was fantastic news for music listeners missing their intelligent and funny brand of angry intensity. One might almost think that news of second Black Flag reunion in parallel, Flag, would be a positive thing, but it seems to have mostly just brought about lawsuits and confusion. Black Flag (now consisting of Greg Ginn, Ron Reyes, Gregory Moore and Screeching Weasel’s Dave Klein) have sued their evil twin/band of ex-bandmates Flag (Keith Morris, Chuck Dukowski, Bill Stevenson, and the Descendents’ Stephen Egerton) over use of the Black Flag logo and their abbreviated name Flag. Each side issued the statements expected of successful bands in the middle of crises of identity (a la Queensryche), but Ginn ultimately lost his injunction in court. So, for now, the two bands will have to peacefully coexist, begrudgingly allowing that other kid at the party to wear a Batman costume, even if you totally thought of it first.

What The… is ready for distribution November 5th but if you can’t wait til then, get a little taste by listening to “Wallow in Despair”, their latest single.
