Twitter’s recently launched #Music app is reportedly close to retirement, after a quick slide into obscurity.
Six months ago, Twitter launched their music discovery app, which is separate from the main feed but works in a similar way. After launching at number 6 under the app store’s free download list, #Music quickly fell from the top. Now it is ranked 1,672nd in popularity amongst all apps and 264th in the music app category, which has led to accounts of Twitter being close to retiring it completely. Though the app is disappearing, musician profiles and @TwitterMusic are still part of the Twittersphere, and the company has recently hired a Topspin executive to rethink their approach to music.
