Now that The Pixies have regrouped sans Kim Deal, following her exit from the band in June, drummer Dave Lovering has announced the former bassist is ‘welcome to rejoin’ the rock group she helped create.
Lovering revealed this in a recent interview with NME, and also said the following about Deal’s departure:
We left it open. It was sad and tough when she left, but we wish her well and she has a welcome back if she’d like to. When she said she was leaving it was distressing and there was a lot of panic and we were like, ‘What are we going to do?’ We thought the correct thing is to go forward. So we did.
Following this year’s release of EP1, an EP of their first new music since 2004’s “Bam Thwok”, The Pixies have been playing shows in the US and Europe, replacing Deal with Kim Shattuck, former bassist for The Muffs, and The Pandoras. The band was working on the EP with Deal when she announced she was leaving the band, and prior to its release, her contribution to the new work was deleted and re-recorded with the help of PJ Harvey bassist Simon “Ding” Archer.
