Dam-Funk & Snoopzilla (Snoop Dogg) Join Forces For New Project And Self-Titled Album 7 Days of Funk

The love of funk has brought together Dam-Funk and Snoopzilla (Snoop Dogg), collaborating as 7 Days of Funk.

The new duo will be releasing their self-titled album on December 10 via Stones Throw Records. The first official single, “Faden Away,” has already been released.

Dam-Funk, known as the King of Modern Funk, met Snoop Dogg two years ago and performed with him at a 2011 SXSW show. Snoop has adopted the moniker Snoopzilla as an homage to legendary funk artist Bootsy Collins, who often went by Bootzilla.

Neither of them are new to what they’re doing: Snoop Dogg is no stranger to adopting new names, as we learned when he made a reggae album under the name Snoop Lion. Similarly, this isn’t Dam-Funk’s first collaboration this year, since he put out an LP with Steve Arrington in August.

The two musicians seem to understand each other. Snoopzilla said, “I’ve had funk influences in my music my whole career. Dam-Funk is cold. He’s keeping the funk alive and I knew I had to get down with him.”

Dam-Funk seems to agree, saying “Snoop knew what I was thinking without me having to articulate it. That’s how you know when you gel artistically with someone. These beats were made for him and he laid down some of the smoothest harmonies and melodies I’ve ever heard.”
