Earthless – From the Ages

If one were to put psychedelic cosmic sounds, heavy metal and well-written solos in a blender, what he would end up with is Earthless’ new LP, From The Ages. With just a handful of releases, the band has gained thousands of likes on Facebook, and with good reason. With their distinct sound, the band offers its fans something different than what other artists are putting out. But apart from that, Earthless demonstrate extraordinary talent and mastery of their instruments. From The Ages is undoubtedly one of the strongest releases of 2013.

At first glance, it may seem like From The Ages is an EP, with just 4 tracks. However, they stretch out, the first song hitting just under fifteen minutes and the last song a half hour long. This does not negatively affect the album, since the song lengths are justified; the music is instrumental and phenomenally played. The drums feature an abundance of variation, with cymbal use and drum fill patterns that keep the listener’s attention. The bass is heavy, dissonant and gives the songs a warm and psychedelic feeling. The most important aspect to spotlight, however, is the jaw-dropping guitar work.

The first song, “Violence of the Red Sea,” kicks off with a guitar solo that immediately demands attention. Soon after, a doom-y riff takes over, which is reminiscent of classic Black Sabbath. The rest of the song contains heavy riffs, but guitar solos play alongside and dominate. The atmosphere of each song is actually interesting; apart from sounding psychedelic, there’s also a prominent cosmic feel. The songs sound like a soundtrack for space travel. There is also a jammy vibe. The song structures sound as if the band is just rehearsing, yet the music is so musically advanced that it sounds like a finished product.

All in all, Earthless are a band that deserve attention, respect, and support. It is strongly urged to buy From The Ages in any format. It’s a purchase that won’t be regretted.
