Kanye West’s “Gone” Back in the Charts After Eight Years

There’s some new love for some old Kanye, thanks to Marina Shifrin and the internet. Viral popularity has struck again, and “Gone” is suddenly clawing for a chart-topping spot eight years after Late Registration dropped.

There’s quitting in style, and then there’s Marina Shifrin. The 25-year old producer busted some serious moves to “Gone”, while simultaneously giving her bosses some insight into her new career direction. Most readers probably didn’t even need me to say that though – Shifrin’s gone more viral than the common cold, racking up well over 15 million views on Youtube.

Turns out that all it took to make people remember “Gone” was a snarky internet sensation. The song has sailed into uncharted waters, placing 18th on the Billboard Hot 100. The only song off Late Registration to come in higher than that was “Gold Digger”, which hit number 1. West has been busy man of late, what with the continued promotion of Yeezus and his feud with Jimmy Kimmel, but he should probably go ahead and give Shifrin a quick “thank you”.

Then again, she’s doing pretty well on her own. A spot on Queen Latifah’s talk show tends to give a bit of a boost.
