It’s been a couple of years since we last heard from Girl Talk. The mashup maestro sentenced himself to a few years hard time on the touring circuit – it’s amazing the man hasn’t drowned in champagne yet, and even more amazing that he’s continued to release albums. Next on the list? Broken Ankles, a collaborative EP with veteran rapper Freeway.
Freeway’s been off the grid for a bit as well, at least musically speaking. Diamond in the Ruff came out in 2012, garnering widespread critical praise. He’s surfaced more recently on a few guest tracks, but nothing on this scale. Broken Ankles is the result of two months’ work with Girl Talk, and all but promises some fireworks, given the high-energy pedigree of the collaborators.
If you’re wondering what this is going to sound like, then wonder no longer. “Tolerated” debuted at a surprise, confetti-filled concert a couple days ago, and it’s absolutely filthy. Freeway has proven himself more than equal to the task of keeping up with Girl Talk’s lightning-fast sonic switchbacks. Check out the video and song below.
