Strokes member and Sideshow Bob impersonator Albert Hammond, Jr. flouts the Strokes’ post-Comedown Machine refractory period, choosing rather to fill the Autumn air with new solo tunes and a month-long November tour.
Primarily known for his sympathetic guitar playing in the Strokes, Hammond, Jr. brings a cheery Strokesian disposition into his solo work but still finds a distinct stripped-down lyrical voice. For his new record AHJ, Hammond, Jr. continues his work with Grammy-winning producer Gus Oberg, who produced both of his previous solo albums. AHJ (out October 8th) is the followup to 2008’s lovable ¿Cómo Te Llama? and 2006’s Yours to Keep, both of which achieved notable success in the indie-sphere.
Earlier this Summer, Hammond, Jr. performed at the “Put Your Sad Down” benefit concert for School of Seven Bells guitarist Benjamin Curtis, who had been diagnosed with lymphoma.
