Okkervil River Releases Final Chapter for Videogame/Album The Silver Gymnasium, Players Who Beat Final Level Receive Free Download of Expanded 8-Bit Game EP

In one of the most creative marketing tactics employed by a band, ever, Okkervil River has just completed the final piece to their online adventure game The Silver Gymnasium, which coincides with their new album of the same name. Those who complete the game will automatically receive a “prize” code to download an EP that features expanded mixes of chiptune versions of the new album’s songs that are used in the game.

Okkervil River frontman Will Sheff worked with Benjamin Miles, of the successful designer thinktank Eyes & Ears, to construct the 8-bit game, and it’s based on such games Sheff lovingly played back in the ’80s as Leisure Suit Larry, King’s Quest and more. Included in the game are the following songs from the actual album known as The Silver Gymnasium:

“Pink-Slips”
“Stay Young”
“On a Balcony”
“Down Down the Deep River”
“Lido Pier Suicide Car”
“Where the Spirit Left Us”
“White”
“Walking Without Frankie”
“It Was My Season”

Click here to play the addictive adventure game, and best of luck with it, and scoring the sweet EP that comes with completion!
