Sepultura guitarist Max Cavalera and drummer Igor Cavalera are forming a new two-piece group, which they say will be a “metal version of the White Stripes.”
James Murphy of DFA Records and LCD Soundsystem convinced the pair to perform as a duo, rather than the four-piece outfit that is the Cavalera Conspiracy. According to brooklynvegan.com, he also suggested that they record and perform as duet, hence the reference to the White Stripes. Murphy seems to like working with his fellow artists – he helped Arcade Fire with their September 2013 release The Suburbs.
The Cavaleras know Murphy because Igor and his wife, Laima Leyton, perform and DJ as the electronic band MixHell. Igor told DJ Mag:
We are proud to have gained the support of the electro scene, but most of all, we are glad to have them as special friends in our lives. James Murphy, Erol, Soulwax, Boys Noize, DJ Hell, Justice and others — besides being supporters — are part of our family today, and this strong relation we’ve built is priceless.
In addition to helping out the Cavalera brothers, Murphy will be performing at the III Points Festival in Wynwood, Miami, in early October. About week later, he will perform at the 2013 CBGB Festival, along with artists like Grizzly Bear and Atlas Genius. If festivals aren’t your thing, you can catch his work in the Broadway play Betrayal by Harold Pinter. Murphy wrote original music for the stage production, which stars Rachel Weisz and Daniel Craig.
