It’s safe to say that nobody saw this coming: after 15 years of absence, Fleetwood Mac’s original female vocalist, Christine McVie, has announced that she’s back in the band.
Fleetwood Mac sent audiences at the O2 Arena in London into a craze last week when the band’s original female lead vocalist, keyboardist, and songwriter; Christine McVie, reunited with them onstage for the first time in 15 years. McVie was a central member of Fleetwood Mac for 30 years and is credited with writing many of the band’s hit songs – including “Don’t Stop” and “You Making Loving Fun” – two songs that helped make Fleetwood Mac’s eleventh studio album, Rumours, the tremendous success it has been.
McVie left Fleetwood Mac 1998 after the group’s induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Since that time Stevie Nicks has been quoted saying that there was, “no more chance of [a McVie reunion] happening than an asteroid hitting the earth”. Apparently we all need to keep our eyes on the skies in the coming weeks.
In the meanwhile, take a peek at the reunion video no one ever thought they would see: Fleetwood Mac performing “Don’t Stop” in their original glory.
