British post-punk band the Savages give the fancy video treatment to “Husbands,” off their debut LP, the Mercury prize-nominated Silence Yourself.
In contrast to their previous video, the twitchily high-fi “Shut Up,” the Savages’ new piece features black and white clips that read almost like history of human evolution from single cell on up. Except it seems to get hung up on the creepy crawlies. Is there a message in the circumscribed flip-flopping triangle—alternating symbols of the masculine and feminine? An image of churning magma recalls the track’s underlying sound sample: the sound of lava solidifying underwater, taken from an exhibit at the London Natural History Museum. All this is interspersed with luminous captures from Savages live shows.

While they have completed their part in Doug Aitkens much-hyped Station to Station Tour, there are still opportunities to catch the Savages on tour this Fall, as well as at the New York’s CMJ Music Marathon this October.
