UK electronic producer Jon Hopkins has released the video for a version of his song “Breathe This Air” featuring Megan James of Purity Ring. The originally instrumental track is off his latest album Immunity.
Hopkins, who has previously collaborated with the likes of Brian Eno and Coldplay, released his fourth studio album, Immunity, to much acclaim back in March. He is nominated (yet again) for this year’s Mercury Prize for outstanding musician. For this version of “Breathe This Air,” Hopkins recruited Megan James of Purity Ring for an added vocal element. This is not his first encounter with an indie songstress this year; he recently collaborated with Natasha Khan aka Cat Power for some of the soundtrack to the film How I Live Now.
Directed by Anthony Dickenson, the video for “Breathe This Air” explores the experiences of two strangers in the woods and their ultimate intersection. Says Dickenson of the piece,
I was interested in those times when you think you’re totally alone in your thoughts and something unexpectedly disrupts that, snapping you out…The characters in the film have very different stories but I wanted to create distinct parallels, bringing them closer and closer until they actually intersect in a single defining moment.
Be sure to catch Jon Hopkins live on his Fall tour which is currently underway.
