It looks as if all of the teasing, secret leaks, and vague hints that Arcade Fire have been dropping have all come true, with a little, well actually not so little, surprise. The single, official video, and interactive video from the band’s secretive new album “Reflektor” were released last night, featuring backup vocals from the one and only David Bowie.
The band, after having hung graffiti clues with the word “Reflektor” and 9 pm, 9/9 and further confirming the association with moment regarding their newest album release, last night they made good on it. The single was released, with, according to Pitchfork, “a voice that sounds a whole lot like David Bowie.” It turns out that’s exactly who it is. Bowie posted on his Facebook page with confirmation,
THE CLOCK STRIKES 9 ON 9/9 FOR THE REFLEKTORS
“Thought you would bring me to the resurrektor…”
As 9 o’clock pm creeps around the globe on the 9th day of the 9th month, Reflektor, (the latest offering from Arcade Fire) becomes available from participating stores across the planet.
We can confirm that David Bowie has supplied a brief backing vocal on the James Murphy (LCD Soundsystem) produced track (no saxophone though), which is being issued under the alias of The Reflektors in the reflekting sleeve pictured here [above].
The vinyl is a very limited 2-track 12″ with an instrumental of the A-side on the reverse and will only be available in stores at 9:00pm at your nearest participating store.
The reverse of the sleeve is designed to look like it has an album tracklisting for the upcoming album due on October 29th, but it is in fact just snippets of lyrics from Reflektor.
There will also be an Anton Corbijn directed video of the song premiered this evening.
Keep an eye on http://reflektor.arcadefire.com/ and http://www.thereflektors.com/ for updates.
Along with the single was released an official video, directed by Anton Corbijn of which we have already seen teaser trailer.
Watch the video here, and afterwards, head on over to www.justareflektor.com to participate in the interactive video short directed by Vincent Morriset, according to Spin. There is no more official information about the album as of now, but there are sure to be a few more teases and surprises from Arcade Fire.
Arcade Fire is also set to score Spike Jonez’ newest film, Her.
