LISTEN: Mark Lanegan Releases Cover of “Deepest Shade” by The Twilight Singers

Alt-rock cult favorite Mark Lanegan has released a second streaming track from his upcoming album Imitations, a cover of The Twilight Singers’ “Deepest Shade.”

The former Screaming Trees frontman and sometime member of Queens of the Stone Age is gearing up to release his 8th solo album, a collection of covers appropriately titled Imitations. Along with classics from his childhood like Nancy Sinatra and John Cale, Lanegan offers his husky interpretations of songs from alternative and contemporary artists like Nick Cave and Chelsea Wolfe. Listen below to his version of The Twilight Singers “Deepest Shade.” (Fun fact: The Twilights Singers’ vocalist Greg Dulli makes up one half of The Gutter Twins, along with Lanegan.)

Imitations is out September 17th via Vagrant Records. If you’re on the West Coast, Lanegan will be playing a set at San Francisco’s Hardly Strictly Bluegrass festival. Otherwise, be sure to catch him on his October/November world tour.
