Fans of Portland’s wailing hard-rock mavens Red Fang extend their pinkies and pointers as Whales and Leeches‘s twisted sound-off single “Blood Like Cream” leeches onto the airwaves.
Two years have elapsed since the release of 2011’s Murder the Mountains, whose melodic prowess drew acclaim and adoration from the stoner rock scene and beyond, earning the band the opener spot for Mastodon in their 2011 and 2012 tours. Through the hyper-masculine braggadocio and a gratuitous potshot at Bon Iver, their brand new metal-jerk bio by the Melvins’ bassist Jared Warren boasts their return from touring the world–“playing to thousands of sweaty, hygienically-challenged maniacs at festivals and non-ventilated venues alike”–to the studio where they put together a refined, trippy, “good cheese” sort of record. Whiff on that, America.
Whales and Leeches hits the shelves October 15. You can preorder your copy through Relapse Records.
