Talented five-piece string band Joy Kills Sorrow have released a video for their beautiful rendition of The Postal Service’s “Such Great Heights”.
Based out of Boston, Joy Kills Sorrow features musicians on mandolin, guitar, banjo, bass and vocals, and currently the group is touring in support of their latest EP, the 7-track wonder Wide Awake. Featured on the compilation is their cover of The Postal Service’s pop hit, and guitarist Matt Arcara recently explained the reasoning behind choosing such a song for their reworking:
“Such Great Heights” is a tune that people recognize and it gives them a lens to see Joy Kills Sorrow through. We’ve always been interested in this idea of how to play non-traditional music in a traditional string-band setting. “Such Great Heights” gave us an opportunity to say, okay, how can we take this mostly electronic recording and spread the bits and pieces around to the different instruments?
