Straight outta Copenhagen comes the funky house duo franskild with a new EP out on the label Sweat It Out. Consisting of “master chef” Love Ojensa and “spaced out architect” Tim Söderström, their sound promises to be a “collaboration of wonders” with ’80s and ’90s house and electronica influences. So, do these promises and interesting character descriptions match up with the three track Eden EP? Fear not, house junkies and casual listeners, this reviewer has an opinion!

Despite some of the possibly tongue-in-cheek pretentions found on their website and Facebook page, franskild have built a solid, soulful EP with Eden EP. The first track, “Shards Master,” has a crazy dream quality to its steady beats with that excellent old ’90s vibe that makes you want to bust out the multi-colored wristbands and pacifiers from the attic. “eden NEW version,” is similar to “Shards Master,” but it has such an uplifting roll to it that before long you feel less like you’re listening to house and more like you’ve busted out your dad’s old Motown records. The EP’s last track, “Will It Ever Feel Alright,” has a Pet Shop Boys quality and brings the album back down in tempo a notch—down in tempo, but not down in quality. The EP as a whole does everything a good EP should do. It provides a quality sample of what an artist can do while enticing you to seek out more. EP is never boring, it never drifts or gets too crazy—its just the solid work of this “collaboration of wonders.”

Speaking from experience to those among us that must also rise with the sun, Eden EP is the perfect “drinking coffee and easing into the day,” kind of music. To those of us who rise with the rest of the world—let your hair down and get it anyway.
