M.I.A.’s New Album Matangi Gets Release Date Following Leaked Album Threat

Interscope Records has finally given the world (and M.I.A.) a release date for her upcoming album, Matangi. Originally due out in April, it has been pushed back a grand total of seven months.

Interscope announced this morning that M.I.A.’s fourth studio album, Matangi, will be released on November 5th of this year, following a threat from the artist herself to leak it if the company took any longer. Interscope pushed back the release date for some technical tweaks; apparently as a whole the album was “too positive.”

This is not the first hit of bad luck the Sri Lankan artist has had this year. A documentary featuring her along with Kanye West and Diplo was shelved in July when the director quit the project.

With a new concrete release date, hopefully everything will run smoothly. The title of the album, which M.I.A. descibes as, “Paul Simon on acid,” is taken from her birth name, Mathangi. A couple of tracks have already been released streaming, along with music video for the lead single, “Bring the Noize.”

Let’s all pray that the November release date will stick.
