Known for the 1980s classic off the Breakfast Club soundtrack, “Don’t You (Forget About me)” Simple Minds is returning to the US and Canada for the first time since 2002.
The US and Canadian dates follow the release earlier this year of their career-spanning collection Celebrate, which kicks off with the proto-electronic dance music of I Travel, from 1980, and continues to the present with the inclusion of the recently-recorded Blood Diamonds. The new line up coming to North America in October consists of original members Jim Kerr (vocals) and Charlie Burchill (guitar), as well as drummer Mel Gaynor, keyboardist Andy Gillespie and bassist Ged Grimes. As frontman Jim Kerr says:
“It has been a long time coming, way too long to be honest. Although this is by no means an extensive tour, it could mean a new beginning for us in that part of the world…We worked throughout Canada and the US in the earlier days of our careers and have been dreaming of getting the opportunity to return, just as many of our supporters in North America have been dreaming of getting the chance to see Simple Minds in their hometown.”
The band will have a short stint across the ocean this time around, but hope to open up the doors to the possibility of a longer tour in the future. Check out the tour dates below.
