It’s heavy, spacey, and in one year the title will be either a. sort of ironically cool, or b. sort of stupid. Yep, it’s “2013”, the new non-album song streamed briefly before a copyright claim from BPI nuked it clean off YouTube. Lucky you, we’ve got the song, if not the video, check it out.
“2013” is the newest in a series of songs released to stir up interest (because there was absolutely none before, of course) in the Monkeys’ upcoming album AM, which is set for September release. “2013” meshes a heavy bassline with whimsical lyrics for a strange, stompy, but completely hypnotic offering that might remind listeners of an earlier release from the same album (and a-side to “2013), “Do I Wanna Know“.
The indie giants (and perennial winners of the “band name most likely to double as a syfy movie title” award) are also due to go on tour this fall. Give “2013” a listen here:
