After a successful debut in 2012, Global Citizen Festival has announced their lineup for the 2013 festival. With musicians like The Black Keys, Foo Fighters, Niel Young, and more in attendance, the 2012 festival was a hit from the start. Taking place in Central Park, it is anticipated that there will be over 60,000 fans in attendance this year.
On September 29, 2012, the first Global Citizen Festival took place in Central Park, and not only delivered a great show to New York natives, but also brought awareness to extreme poverty. With many celebrities and philanthropists taking part in the festival, the audience was able to experience live music, good vibes, and most importantly, the voice of reason and empathy. In fact, the festival made history, as it was the largest music charity webcast and broadcast. A total of $1,314,700,000 was raised to support anti-poverty charities and campaigns.
This year, the festival will take place on September 28th, and will include names like Kings of Leon, Alicia Keys, Stevie Wonder, and John Mayer. These musicians will not be making any personal profit, as they are donating their time and efforts to help raise funds for those in dire need and poverty. When questioned on the subject of compensation, Hugh Evans, co-founder and CEO of the Global Poverty Project stated, “These four headlining artists are willing to play for free because they believe this generation wants to see the end of extreme poverty”.
