The legendary Steve Arrington answers the call of DāM-FunK, as they prepare for the August release of their collaborative Higher with two epic lead singles.
For those new to music (ha!), you might be wondering “Who is this Steve Arrington?” As the Dayton native and Slave frontman whose music, alongside that of Zapp and George Clinton, helped lay the foundation for West-coast gangsta-funk, you might have already heard his soulful tunes sampled by the likes of Jay-Z, Snoop, Mariah Carey, or a multitude of other artists. A particularly starry-eyed witness was modern-funk artist DāM-FunK, who reached out to Arrington with the intention of collaborating on a record via Stones Throw Records. The result? Higher. It drops August 6th.
DāM lays down the beats while Arrington supplies the lyrics and voice. “Dopes” and “phats” abound. Listen to these tracks and get those shoulders groovin’!
