Man Man Announce New Album On Oni Pond Set for September 2013 Release

Philadelphia hipster experimentalists Man Man have announced the release of a new album, their fifth full length, set to drop mid-September. Pitchfork premiered the first track from the LP today, “Head On,” in the form of a lyric video.

For On Oni Pond, the upcoming followup to 2011’s Life Fantastic, Man Man worked with producer Mike Mogis (Bright Eyes, The Faint among others) to create what vocalist Honus Honus is calling a “reboot” of their experimental soul sound. For starters, drummer Pow Pow stepped up in the songwriting process; according to a recent press release, his input had not been as prominent on previous albums.

If the first single, “Head On,” is anything to go by, this reboot is more of an evolution than a flat out change. The lyric video below pairs the melancholy, yet somehow uplifting, doo-wop track with an old-school black and white creature feature.

Says Honus Honus of the new album, “It’s not a record that’s going to flirt with you, this is a record that’s asking you out. If you get into bed with us there’s going to be a relationship.” Sounds like something to look forward to. On Oni Pond drops September 10th on Anti- and can be pre-odered through iTunes now.
