Seeing Barenaked Ladies on stage was like jumping in a time machine and traveling back to the ’90s. The entire stadium stood up as the band pranced out and everyone was wild by the second song “Boomerang”. Showing off their new album Grinning Streak, they hooked the audience with a combination of new material, classics and a little improv about performing at The Greek. The entire set list was a hit, including, of course, the encore: everyone’s favorite track, “Brian Wilson.” This humorous Canadian rock band has come along way since Stunt, their hit record back in 1998.
As soon as Ben Folds Five walked onstage, the whole place became electric. With their very recent release of live album Ben Folds Five Live , fans were anxious to hear it in person. They hit the ground running with “One Angry Dwarf and 200 Solemn Faces” and “Selfless Cold and Composed.” Ben Folds’ wicked dance moves on the piano echoes classic Elton John and Stevie Wonder at his most flamboyant. The entire set was unhinged and even, at times, tranquil– but the band never lost its momentum.
Guster is a universal indie band that brings the common man to his feet. No age is limited from the melodic and upbeat tune of dualing violin, ukele and horns. Folks were on their feet as soon as the first chord was strung, as the band started off the show with familiar tune “Wish.” Midway through, hit song “Satellite” brought fans to a passionate sing along. Their legendary congo drums filled the air and bounced off concertgoers’ chests, even in the nosebleed seats. Ending the show with “This Could All Be Yours Someday,” the Boston-based acoustic pop trio received spirited applause til the very end, finishing with a roaring standing ovation. Guster is promoting their new live performance album Ganging Up on the Sun and should have great success with the rest of their summer summer tour with Barenaked Ladies and Ben Folds Five.
