M.I.A.’s fourth studio album, Matangi has stirred up controversy with her label—for being “too positive,” allegedly. As a result, it is being temporarily postponed; its initial April release has been pushed to the early fall, most likely. In the meantime, a new track has been released and can be heard streaming on Soundcloud now.
A full cut of “Bring the Noize” was debuted on a BBC 1 show earlier today, and has received a favourable response, despite the label’s apparent dissatisfaction with the tone of the album in general. M.I.A. claims to be happy with the final product, and determined to release the album as soon as possible, but the label is causing a stir about it.
When will you be able to hear Matangi in full? No word yet—we just know it will be in the fall, so there are still a few more months of waiting left. In the meantime, you can satisfy your desire for new M.I.A. tunes by streaming “Bring the Noize” below.
