Deer Tick made a lot of people very happy today when they released a streaming track off their forthcoming album, Negativity, due out in September.
Negativity is the Providence band’s fifth full length album, and it sounds like they’re taking the more polished sound of their 2011 LP Divine Providence a bit further. Frontman John McCauley asserts that it is his most personal work thus far in his career. 2012 was a rough year for him, full of family, relationship and personal drama. He seems to have turned the lemons into lemonade and created a very cohesive, tender collection of songs.
The alt-country boys released their new song “The Rock” early this morning. It’s clearly a song about the end of a relationship, most likely inspired by McCauley’s breakup with his fiancee last year. Listening to the streaming track exclusively at Rolling Stone.
Negativity is out September 24th. For further news hit up their website, and check out the firework filled album trailer below.
