Big and potentially bad news for fans attending Bonnaroo this weekend. Mumford & Sons have canceled their set at the last minute and Jack Johnson is slated to replace them.
Johnson will replace Mumford & Sons Saturday night set.
As Consequence of Sound reports, Bonnaroo got lucky as Johnson was already slated to be a guest performer to ALO, a band on Johnson’s label.
Sadly, Mumford & Sons had to cancel their set as the bassist, Ted Dwane, is still recovering from brain surgery.
Bonnaroo made the announcement official via their website and via their Twitter.
(1/2) We were informed yesterday that Mumford & Sons have to cancel their #Bonnaroo appearance due to bassist Ted Dwane’s medical condition

The festival also included a statement from Johnson regarding suddenly becoming a headliner at the festival,
I was on my way to Bonnaroo to sit in on a set with my friends ALO last night when we got the call asking if I could possibly help out and cover for Mumford and Sons. I heard the news about Ted Dwane and was happy to know that he was on his way to recovery. I called my band and asked if they were up for it. Long story short – they are headed this way. I’ve got a lot of lyrics and chords to relearn by Saturday night. I was here to play the first Bonnaroo and it is a very special festival to my band. We are excited to hit the stage again. Get well Ted!
Aloha,
Jack
Consequently, it’s actually perfect timing for Johnson to be a headliner as he has an album coming out this Fall.
No word yet on if Bonnaroo plans to have Mumford & Sons back to headline in the near future.
