Bassist Kim Deal Leaves The Pixies

Sad news today as Kim Deal has announced that she is leaving The Pixies.

Deal was a founding member of the group but the band made it official via their Facebook earlier today,

We are sad to say that Kim Deal has decided to leave the Pixies. We are very proud to have worked with her on and off over the last 25 years. Despite her decision to move on, we will always consider her a member of the Pixies, and her place will always be here for her. We wish her all the best.

Black Francis, Joey Santiago and David Lovering

Deal had been a member of the Pixies since 1986 when she answered an ad in the Boston Phoenix. She was also a founding member of The Breeders, while the Pixies were on hiatus.

The band dissolved in 1993 but a reunion in 2004 and some sporadic tours gave hope to fans. Unfortunately this no longer seems to be the case.

However, fans of Deal can still catch her with The Breeders. The band announced earlier this year that they would be embarking on an anniversary world tour. The tour was to celebrate Last Splash’s 20th anniversary. The band is currently finishing up their tour in England.
