The xx made public the video for their new single “Fiction.” Its release comes in the midst of nonstop live performances from the band’s event series Night + Day and precedes a string of performances at major festivals this summer.
“Fiction” comes off of the xx’s critically praised second album, Coexist. It will be available off of Young Turks this July as both a 7″ and in download form with the B-side “Together” (featured in the end credits of this year’s film adaptation of the Great Gatsby).
Shot in the midst of their last tour during a stop in Palm Springs and chock full of its namesake silhouettes, the noir style video is in part to director Young Replicant (see his previous work for their video “Chained”). It seems he had no trouble showcasing the melancholy feel of the aptly named Night + Day, worldwide series of self-curated mini festivals, the London leg of which kicks off this June 22nd at Hatfield House.
All of this marks the beginning for the xx embarking on consecutive stops at summer festivals. Beginning as a headline act at the Glastonbury Other Stage, they will be following with an eighteen day residency at the Manchester International in July. To cap all of this off the xx will return to the US for another headlining set at the Hollywood Bowl.
