Vampire Weekend’s third album, Modern Vampires of the City, has debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 charts.

It’s the first independent album to achieve a feat such as this in 2013. In the first week, the band sold 134,000 records.

Perhaps all of the recent promo videos with Steve Buscemi contributed to the band’s accomplishment. In the series of promos, Buscemi questions the band about their references, goes bowling with them, and gets rejected by Grimes.

The band is currently touring in support of the new album with Los Angeles based band Haim. Check out the band on tour this summer to listen to their new single “Ya Hey” live.
