After a series of mysterious promotional events, the Boards of Canada released a video for the new song “Reach for the Dead” off their album Tomorrow’s Harvest scheduled to release in June. The latest album trailer, in addition to the new video, is explosive and thought-provoking.
In the past few months Boards of Canada have been sending scattered and mysterious clues as to details of their upcoming album, including number sequences, puzzle pieces and a phantom video premiere in Tokyo. The build up to the release began with mystery 12″ vinyl purchase from a lucky Record Store Day Shopper in New York. Beginning the start of a social media craze to uncover more information to the covert album release, the group continued fueling the suspense with a second 12″ vinyl record containing an additional numerical sequence in London, England. With correlating YouTube uploads and snippets played on Zane Lowe’s BBC radio show, it was speculated the Board’s album would be called “Cosecha.”
The band announced the album’s title Tomorrow’s Harvest and release date of June 11th, 2013 in North America via Warp Records. The latest videos released by Boards of Canada feature a trailer for Tomorrow’s Harvest as well as a video for their new song “Reach for Death.” The overall theme of both of these videos is cinematic and apocalyptic. “Reach for Death” has an eerie vibe with visuals of an abandoned town in the desert. The intermittent shots of nature growing around the devastation and the absence of human life along with the emotional and ominous synthesizers, creates an overall captivating experience for the viewer. The album’s video trailer showcases that same concept, using different clips of television static and musical storytelling to give fans an opportunity to see a glimpse into the album as a whole.
