After nearly 20 years, Steven Drozd has yet to make an attempt to break from the pursuit of his musical aspirations, managing to keep his hands steady and constant throughout a number of different projects across the board. No matter the situation, whether releasing the 13th studio album titled The Terror with his rock band The Flaming Lips this year, or through solo stints like collaborating with students at a local Oklahoma City music school to produce an ensemble, Drodz still has the work ethic of a first year artist.
His energy is blazingly apparent here as Drozd has announced plans to form a new prog rock band that will be set to hit the stage later this summer. Known for his ‘much to do’ talent as a perennial musician and instrumentalist, Drozd will showcase his talent on stage with other local OKC artist, forming a group as they attempt to give fans another source of musical inspiration and artistry. Drozd had a few comments about the project
Wayne [Coyne] wanted me to be this weird John McLaughlin-style front guy playing guitar with a crack team of prog musicians. We’re trying to get something going with that.
While Drozd and the new prog band prepare to make an appearance sometime soon, be on the lookout for yet another collaboration from the Flaming Lips as they work with rap sensation Ke$ha in a project formerly called Lip$ha.
